Our aspiration for the Phoenix Food Shop is to create an environmentally sustainable solution to combatting food waste and food inequality in our local community. As much as possible, we try to minimise packaging with our fruit and vegetable and to source local, seasonal produce. Our future plans involve growing our own vegetables and fruit in a local allotment.

A key principle of the Phoenix Food Shop is about residents coming together to identify our common needs and to find strength in shared solutions which will direct our work. It is essential therefore that all residents feel confident to come forward and know that we will provide a safe space for them to be able to share and participate. We work to make sure that all our activities welcome all residents, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage, civil partnership, pregnancy, maternity, race, religion, belief, sex, or sexual orientation. We undertake to support an atmosphere of friendship, respect and care for each other, and to treat people as their self-determined gender.

We endeavour, as much as possible, to provide a range of fresh food and ingredients to encourage residents to cook their own healthy meals and to eat a nutritionally balanced diet. We provide recipes and suggestions for how to cook low cost meals from scratch, using easily available ingredients from the Phoenix Food Shop. Our future vision is to be able to provide cookery classes and further support for residents to inspire healthy attitudes and practices towards food.
